The Akademi aspires to become a hub of cultural activity in this unique architectural marvel called Chandigarh, planned and designed by the legendary architect Le Corbusier and the capital city of the states of Punjab and Haryana, by engaging into various activities to satiate the aspirations, expectations and the desire to participate by its citizens in the artistic life of this very special city symbolizing the modern along with the traditional values of India.

The objectives and guidelines of the Akademi are development  and dissemination; encouragement and promotion, study and research in the field of creative arts such as Painting, Sculpture, Graphics, Drawing, Photography, Installation art, Multi Media and other such forms.

Organising individual and group exhibitions; Interactive sessions with artists, art critics, art historians; slide shows and lectures by well known personalities from the field of art and culture; artists camps;  workshops by eminent artists for the benefit of local artists, art students, art lovers and general public, and publications on art are the primary objectives of the Akademi. It is the endeavour of the Akademi to create an atmosphere and culture in the region where like minded individuals can share and exchange ideas and contribute to enhance the aesthetic, intellectual and physical experience of life in Chandigarh. By organizing Annual Art Exhibition representing established as well as upcoming artists of the Tricity of Chandigarh, Panchkula and Mohali it helps provide a platform where not only artists but also viewers get to know the pool of talent and creativity available in the region.

The Akademi accords recognition to outstanding talent by honoring distinguished personalities from the field of visual art and  by giving  awards, fellowships and scholarships.

The Akademi also produces memorabilia by printing of images of significant art works on T-Shirts, coffee mugs, greeting cards, book marks, carry bags, and other such items to take art to the homes of the people. It also prints reproductions of the works by eminent artists of the region and the country.

Along with the contemporary and modern art the Akademi takes care not to ignore the traditional and folk art forms that symbolize and represent the rich and invaluable cultural wealth in the myriad shades of our great civilization and the link between the ancient and the present. Akademi takes upon itself the responsibility to promote, encourage and foster the revival and development of folk art, traditional art and craft and its practitioners.

The Akademi makes efforts to foster cultural contacts with the rest of the country and the world with exhibitions, slide shows, lectures and workshops by inviting artists, art critics, art historians and intellectuals from various parts of the country and the world.
